I Didn’t Prepare for This Episode: Will Embodied Capacity Reveal Itself? (Ep 105)

Season #2

Driving to the studio, Kelly realizes she has no idea what to talk about—and instead of panicking, she laughs, using it as evidence of growth: preparation can move from external tools (outlines, rules, plans) into embodied capacity and self-trust built through repetition. She contrasts beginner versus seasoned skill in podcasting and other crafts (driving, jazz, yoga teaching, cooking, art), and asks listeners to notice what they can now do automatically that once took major effort—without discounting that acquired capacity. She also cautions that preparation can become a security blanket, while true mastery sometimes requires relinquishing control, and suggests teaching what you know to deepen confidence. Along the way, she highlights recent guest episodes, her 100-day “Transformation Story” journey, mentoring her podcast apprentice Chloe, and lessons from a new video “Community Features” project.

From the Episode:

  • " And there was a time that would've felt irresponsible. Now it feels like evidence."
  • " And now the preparation hasn't disappeared. It's just moved inside of me. That's the distinction that I realized this whole episode could be built around."
  • "  I'm talking about the kind of winging it that comes when you've done it enough that you are now improvising on top of an accumulated skill."
  • " At first, doing requires an enormous amount of energy. You prepare, and you prepare. Because you're trying to get yourself across that threshold. And then you do it, and you do it, and you do it. And you keep doing it, and eventually the thing that once required all that courage and all that energy, it becomes available capacity."
  • " So here's a question for you, my beautiful listener. What can you do now without thinking about it, that an earlier version of you had to work really fucking hard to learn? I know there's something. What is it? Because we're terrible at recognizing acquired capacity. I've realized that. Once something becomes easy, we discount it."
  • " Don't get so close to your own greatness that you fail to even recognize it anymore."
