Excel Wellness: Functional Nutrition with Dr. Keta (Ep 103)
Kelly welcomes longtime wellness colleague Dr. Keta, founder of Excel Wellness in Baton Rouge, to discuss her evolution from chiropractic physician to functional nutritionist after supporting her mother and navigating her own thyroid decline, later confirmed Hashimoto’s, and perimenopause. Dr. Keta shares how self-experimentation led to a simple, sustainable, food-first approach supported by habits like stress management, movement, breathwork, and lifestyle tools, with flexibility for real life (an 80/20 mindset). They talk about why structure creates freedom, the importance of baselines and testing alongside honoring symptoms, and her root-cause analysis process using system-based symptom mapping and targeted labs. The conversation highlights mindset and identity shifts, accountability, and her 12-week coaching container with ongoing free access to group support. Dr. Keta directs listeners to follow her as Dr. Keta Nutritionist on Instagram and Facebook for education and guidance.
From the Episode:
- " I got exposed to the world of functional medicine for the very first time, and I looked into it. I fell in love 'cause I could not believe there's so much you can help through just lifestyle and habits and nutrition."
- " When you combine that with habits, simple, simple habits, sky's the limit. Your body is going to thank you and say, "Thank you for giving me everything I needed, so now I can help heal cellularly." And why wouldn't it function optimally at that point?"
- " So that is the whole point of this, to transform your mindset on how you think about food. Food is fuel."
- " I always tell them it's not that you can't. The dialogue should not be, "I can't have something." It should be more like, "I can have that, but I'm choosing not to have that." "
- " So really, just jump. Take a chance. It's your life, it's your health, and if you don't do anything, then you are going to be stuck. So in order to be unstuck, you have to try something."
- " And I took that answer and I cried about it saying, "This can't be life," until, you know, I just said, "Enough is enough. I'm not waiting. I'm going to find a way to make myself feel better." "
