Mushroom Magic with Jordan Gros, Founder of Mycocentrics (Ep 99)
Host Kelly Jackson sits down with Jordan Gros, founder of Mycocentrics, to explore how mushrooms shaped Jordan’s life, health, and entrepreneurship. Jordan shares her path from biological engineering and early cordyceps cultivation to a serious Mount Shasta accident that led her back to Louisiana, where mushrooms became central to her healing and daily regimen. She explains what tinctures (liquid extracts) are, why she uses dual extraction for bioavailability, and why her foundational offerings—cordyceps, reishi, and lion’s mane—address common needs like energy, stress, sleep, focus, and gut health. The conversation covers adaptogens, why consistent use matters, why mushrooms are their own nutritional kingdom (including ergothioneine), cooking vs. raw, safe foraging guidance, education-focused walks and talks, psychedelic mushroom basics, and her growing work with gourmet mushrooms at Chris and Camille’s Family Farm, plus what’s next for Mycocentrics in 2027.
From the Episode:
- " I just had to really dig deep as to what sparked even the slightest amount of joy within me, and I kept returning to mushrooms."
- " It's very important for me as a human to develop something that people will genuinely benefit from."
- " ...mushrooms do contain essential nutrients that you cannot reliably get from other sources. Ergothioneine is a big one—it's an antioxidant that exists in many mushrooms, like oyster mushrooms have a lot of it, and if you don't eat mushrooms, you're essentially not gonna get that antioxidant. That antioxidant has anti-aging effects, anti-inflammatory properties, and it can really help your overall health, and all you have to do is just eat more mushrooms."
- "I wanna say that any mushroom is safe to touch. A lot of people think, 'I don't wanna touch it,' or whatever. It's totally safe to touch. It cannot be absorbed through your skin. Even deadly poisonous mushrooms, you can touch them."
- " I think my role is genuinely just to get people together and get people hyped and get people feeling connected back to nature. And really, all I wanna do with this is to spark people's interest enough to go down their own rabbit holes. Mycology is such an interesting, new, exciting field. There's a ton of citizen scientists that are making new discoveries."
- " Reishi's also gonna be like the most all-encompassing, so for those who are like, 'Whoa, this is overwhelming. I don't know where to start,' I always say reishi is the best place to start. They call it the umbrella mushroom. They also call it the mushroom of immortality."
